Team Attends LeaCoMM Partner Meeting in Anakar, Turkey

In late June, our new Chief Executive, Catherine Morley, accompanied by Simon Finnegan and Cathleen McDonagh, attended the second LeaCoMM partner meeting in Ankara.

The meeting was also attended by our partners from Germany, Slovenia, Lithuania, Greece and Turkey. LeaCoMM, funded under the Comenius strand of the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme, has the core objective of designing, developing and launching an internet platform which will bring together international best practice in the teaching materials required for the multi-cultural classroom. For more information, visit the project website at

www.leacomm.eu

Designed for teachers, teacher educators and student teachers, our hope is that the platform will become the go-to place for those wishing to really actively engage with their multi-cultural classrooms. Exchange House National Traveller Service is particularly interested in this work and the impact it could have on the experience of Traveller children and young people in Irish classrooms and brings its broad-ranging education provision expertise to the table.

The partner meetings are an opportunity for all of the organisations to come together to look at the progress of the project. In Ankara, the primary focus was upon finalising the shape, scale and scope of the platform and upon agreeing the quality control criteria for the contents.

On the final afternoon, the Turkish partners hosted a cultural tour of Ankara which included visits to Bilkent University and METU (Middle Eastern Technical University) and a tour of the Mausoleum of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey. The Greek partners will host the next partner meeting in Thessaloniki in October.
